Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Consent & Processing

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI Act No. 4 of 2013) requires Altara Financial Services to inform you of how your personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and destroyed. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal data is handled appropriately, transparently, securely, and in accordance with the law.

During our interaction and appointment, we will obtain certain personal information from you. By voluntarily providing this information, you confirm, agree, and consent to the processing of your personal information by Altara Financial Services, its authorised representatives, employees, contracted product suppliers, and/or their authorised administrators.

This information will only be used for its intended purpose: the provision of financial services to you. Once all transactions regarding the purchase of financial products are complete, your information will be securely stored for recordkeeping and product maintenance. As required by law, your information will be retained for a minimum of five years after termination of the relationship.

Your personal data will not be shared with any third party without your consent unless required by law. We confirm that adequate systems and procedures are in place to protect your personal information in compliance with legal standards. This consent will remain in effect unless formally withdrawn in writing.

Client Consent to Personal Information Processing

By signing this consent, you confirm that:

  • Your personal information may be collected, processed, recorded, and safeguarded during the provision of financial services by Altara Financial Services (FSP 39231), including cross-border data transfers for security purposes.
  • The FSP may supplement your personal information using data received from product providers and third parties to provide a more comprehensive service.
  • Your personal information may be verified, shared, and disclosed with product providers and relevant third parties used by the FSP for adequate service delivery.
  • Your data may be used by the FSP for internal marketing to ensure services remain relevant and aligned with your needs.

Customer Due Diligence (CDD) Requirements

The FSP is legally required to collect and process specific information for Customer Due Diligence (CDD) purposes. This ensures compliance with anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing laws. The following information may be collected:

  • Your identity and that of anyone you represent, including your status as a “prominent person” as defined by law.
  • Your place of residence and/or your business’s registration address.
  • Your status according to sections 26A (financial sanctions) and 28A (prohibited persons) of the Act.
  • The nature and control structure of your business.
  • The nature of products/services used and how they relate to your needs.

The FSP may also consult publicly available sources, including:

  • Press, media, and social media references
  • Law enforcement databases such as Interpol
  • Credit bureaus and similar verification agencies
  • Bank account verification systems

Client Rights & Authorisations

By consenting, you acknowledge and authorise the following:

  • You have the right to access your personal information held by the FSP.
  • You may request the FSP to update, correct, or delete your personal data on reasonable grounds.
  • If you object to the processing of your data, the FSP must stop processing it within reasonable limits, unless to conclude a transaction or ongoing service.
  • To withdraw your consent, you must submit your request in writing to the FSP’s Information Officer.
  • Even after withdrawal, the FSP is legally obligated to retain your information for five years after the end of the relationship.
  • The FSP may disclose your data if legally required or allowed under applicable legislation.
  • You authorise the insurer to verify information provided and conduct a credit check if necessary.
